Chief Executive Officer

Melody Bailey is the Chief Executive Officer of the South Carolina Assisted Living Association (SCALA). A lifelong resident of Lexington County, South Carolina, Melody has devoted more than two decades to advancing the association’s mission and impact. She began her career with SCALA in 2001 as Membership Director, quickly establishing herself as a dedicated advocate for the assisted living industry. In 2003, she was promoted to Executive Director, and later CEO, where she continues to lead with vision and commitment.
In her role, Melody oversees all aspects of SCALA’s operations, from strategic planning and policy development to member engagement and advocacy. She works closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the organization remains a driving force in promoting excellence in assisted living and services across the state. Under her leadership, SCALA champions its members through education, public awareness, and legislative initiatives—providing vital representation for both providers and consumers.
Melody, a graduate of Columbia College with a bachelor’s degree in political science, previously held the positions of legislative liaison and executive director for an association management firm. She resides in Chapin with her husband, Burke, and their 16-year-old son. They also have a small petting zoo at home, which includes two cats and two dogs: a Frenchie and a Samoyed.
